Diagnostic Assessment - takes place before formal instruction begins to assess students’ prior knowledge of a concept/s; assists teachers in planning for a unit of study and identifying students’ initial strengths and needs
Formative Assessment - on-going assessment used to guide the instructional process; informal and formal opportunities; attention must be paid to process and product when assessing problem solving
